Honouring tradition while respecting change
Obituary of Steve Peter Racz
On Feb. 17, 2021 Steve Peter Racz, a lifelong farmer and resident of the Charlemont Community, passed away suddenly at his home with family at his side. He was born on March 26, 1940 in Chatham, Ont to his Hungarian parents, Steve & Ethel Racz (nee Korotnai). Steve is survived by his devoted wife of almost 60 years Virginia Racz (nee Howlett), his children, Ray (Mary Lou) Racz, Susan (Pete) LeBlanc & Peter Racz (Jillian Lawrence). As well a his brother Jim (Jean) Schaffer.
Steve farmed for 65+ years. First with his father and followed later with his sons. He enjoyed dining out with his wife "Ginny", daily morning visits at the Co-op in Tupperville with "the Coffee Crew", working with his son at their farm machinery business, attending auction sales ("social gatherings") in search of a good deal on used farm equipment, visits with his brother Jim, and playtime with his faithful dog "George" and his affectionate cat he called "my baby". The apple of his eye though were his incredible grandchildren Amy, Craig, Emily, Tanner, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Nichole and Charlize. Steve always enjoyed their visits or phone calls. He also loved going fishing with “the boys” on Father’s Day almost every year. He will be deeply missed by many sisters and brother-in-laws of the Howlett family, many nephews, nieces, as well numerous farm equipment dealers from Eastern Michigan to the Ottawa valley and at numerous dealerships in between.
