We were all very sorry to hear of the passing of our Uncle Doug. I have very fond memories of him throughout my childhood, adolescence and into adulthood. He was one person who you could confidently say marched to the beat of his own drummer – perhaps that is why I had such an affinity to the man. He was warm, kind and generous to everyone in our family. When he took over the Cudmore farm he opened it up each summer for epic camping weekends that will remain as cherished memories for the rest of my life. Uncle Doug was the chief organizer and entertainer. His costumes, skits and vocal stylings kept us in stitches. I wasn’t always sure what they were about but they were hilarious nonetheless. He taught me the art and science of the hatchet toss. He regaled into the wee hours of the night with his stories around the fire pit. The following morning he would wake us all up with the worst version of reveille you have ever heard, played on an ancient trumpet that he found god knows where. It was perhaps the greatest alarm clock I ever had in my life. Rest in peace dear Uncle. I’ll have a beer tonight in your memory and reminisce about better times.

To Barb, Sue, Lee and family
Jim and I have a lot of very fond and very fun memories of Doug. There were a lot of great times at the farm that may or may not have involved some beers. He will be missed and we had fun going through some pictures of which we will share! Enjoy!
Love Joan and Jim

I knew Doug from Ridgetown Highschool. He was athletic and an extremely fast runner, as if he had wings, and made it look easy. I bought a motorcycle and Doug was often my passenger. He was full of adventure and we travelled to western Canada and California after high school, using Route 66 in the USA before freeways were built. A few breakdowns added to the adventure. We were hit by an impaired driver in November of 1958. We both were hurt but survived the motorcycle crash. We occasionally communicated over the years and during the last few years had the opportunity to reminisce. He was a loyal travelling companion and good buddy. He thought the world of his family which made him very proud.
My sincere sympathies and condolences to the family at this time of sadness. He left a great legacy.
