Ben E. "Junior" Liberty

Obituary of Ben E. "Junior" Liberty

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ben E. Liberty (Junior) on June 4th, surrounded by the love of his family. Ben was the cherished husband of 58 years to Lynn Liberty (Goodman), a devoted father to Kerry (Dennis) Martin, Tania (Tim) Gingerich, and Joe (Erin) Liberty, and the proud Papa to Anna (Chase), Mallory (Laura), Ben (Maddie), Bella, Jackson, and Hayden.

Born in Chatham-Kent and a lifelong farmer in Wabash, Ben was the son of the late Benjamin and Alma (Webster) Liberty. His life was rooted in hard work, friends, and unwavering love for his family. Ben’s passion for farming was matched only by his love for his shop, where countless hours were spent tinkering, fixing, and laughing with friends and family alike.

Ben had a deep appreciation for old cars, fishing, puzzling, and Westerns. He had a quick wit and a warm sense of humour that lit up any room, and his love of classic country music was the soundtrack to many memories.

He had a heart bigger than any field he ever farmed. He was welcoming, kind, and genuinely caring. He loved people, and people loved him. He lived his life to the fullest, with no regrets, and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the joy of knowing him. His legacy of laughter, kindness, generosity, and joy will live on in the hearts of his family, who will carry those values forward with pride.

Ben is survived by his loving sisters Helen (late Bob) Regnier and Patricia (Terry) Oster and sister-in-law Lillian Liberty. He is predeceased by his siblings Charles Liberty and Linda (Ralph) Richley. Also predeceased by in-law’s Ted and Margaret Goodman, sister in-law Anne (Henry) Vanroboys and brother in-law Pat Goodman.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the oncology teams at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and London Health Sciences Centre, as well as the compassionate home care staff, for their outstanding support.

At Ben’s request, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Chatham-Kent Hospice or charity of your choice. .

A visitation will be held at Badder Funeral Home in Dresden on Saturday, June 7th, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM, with a service to follow. The family welcomes all friends and loved ones to join at the Ken Houston Memorial Arena Hall to celebrate Ben following the service.
