Obituary of Heather K Hawken
With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of Heather Hawken, who left us peacefully on July 21, 2025, at the age of 79. A devoted mother, proud “Pretty Nanny” and loyal friend, Heather brought joy, laughter, and warmth to all who knew her.
Heather was born on January 27, 1946, and spent her career with the Canadian Bank of Commerce, where she was admired for her dedication and kindness. She was the beloved wife of the late Tom Hawken, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventure. Fittingly, Heather passed exactly one year to the day after Tom, a testament to the deep bond they shared.
Together, Tom and Heather traveled the world in their retirement, creating memories with friends that they cherished for a lifetime. But her favorite place of all was the family cottage in Blind River, where summers were filled with sunshine, laughter and spending time with family and friends. Heather was known for her quick wit and her legendary ability to “bend the rules” during a game of cards—always with a wink and a laugh. Her sense of humour was infectious, and her presence lit up every room she entered.
Heather is survived by her loving children, Sharon (Chris) Kingsbury and Jon (Ginny) Hawken, and her four adored grandchildren: Chloe and Ryan Kingsbury, Mallory and Eddie Hawken.
Dearest sister-in-law of Bill McKenzie, Carol Hawken, Goldie Hawken and Betty Beaulieu. Beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Lionel and Kay Freeman, sister Sharon McKenzie, brother Lionel Freeman, brothers-in-law Bill and Jack Hawken, sister-in-law Marilyn Gill and in-laws Jim and Mary Hawken.
She was the heart of her family, known for her generous spirit and her ability to make everyone laugh and feel at home.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to friends Karen Bosma and Leslie Lawrence. Their presence and care brought comfort in Heather’s final moments. Our family is deeply grateful for their love and support.
A celebration of Heather’s life will be held on August 12, 2025 from 4 – 7pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 113 in Dresden, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or the Dresden Legion Branch 113, in honor of her joyful soul and the love she shared so freely.
Her laughter lives on in our stories, her love in our hearts.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Badder Funeral Home & Reception Centre, Dresden. Online condolences may be made at www.badderfuneralhomes.com
