Obituary of Peggy Sue Van Acker

Peggy Suzanne "Peggy Sue" Van Acker (née Purcell) passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at Four Counties Health Services, Newbury surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 71. Born in Chatham, daughter of  the late John and June Purcell.

Peggy was the beloved wife of the late Rene Van Acker (2020). Together, they shared many passions—including restoring cars side by side—a testament to their shared love of craftsmanship and time spent together. Peggy found joy in gardening and fishing. She had a special fondness for Christmas crafts, creating festive treasures that brightened the holidays for those around her.

She was a devoted Mama to Chantelle Van Acker (Kevin Wygeria) and the late Shannon James Van Acker. Known affectionately as Gram to Jamee (Joe), Mackenzee (Ryley), Stacy (Ben), and Cody (Symantha). Proud great grandma to Beau.

Peggy is remembered lovingly by her sisters Debbie Purcell; Wendy Padfield (Paul); Patti Mercier (Mike); Penny Geddes (Derek) and sister-in-law Lillian (late Rick). She was predeceased by her brother Greg Purcell and sister JoAnne Manderson, both in 2025. Her extended family includes cherished aunts Maxine Legate and Marj Thompson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her loyal dog Chevy was always by her side, offering companionship.

Peggy’s memory will live on through those who knew and loved her. Family and friends will be received at the Badder & Robinson Funeral Home 211 Elm St., Bothwell on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 12 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at Purcell Cemetery at a later date. Following the service, refreshments will be held at the home of Chantelle and Kevin at 242 MacEwen St., Bothwell.
