Obituary of Vivian Farnsworth

A lifelong and proud member of the Dresden community, Vivian Ida (Webster) Farnsworth passed away peacefully at peopleCare Oakcrossing Long‑term Care on December 23, 2025, in her 93rd year.

Born in Dawn Township, Vivian was the cherished daughter of the late Stan and Evelyn Webster, daughter-in-law of Arguyle and Pearl (Wilder) Farnsworth, and beloved “bonus daughter” to family friend Jean Stanley. She was the devoted wife, for more than 62 wonderful years of the late Ormond “Farny” Farnsworth (2016). Together, they created a life rooted in love, loyalty, laughter, and a deep commitment to their family and community.

Vivian was a loving and dedicated mother to Paul Farnsworth and Ann (Patrick) Hoffer, and the proud grandmother of Ryan and Erin. Each one is a source of immense joy in her life. She was a treasured sister to Darlene (late Archie) Lather, and was predeceased by her siblings Hazel, Eileen, Vaughan, Edward, and Robert, along with many nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered with affection by her sister‑in‑law Janie Webster.

Vivian’s warm presence extended far beyond her immediate family. Countless nieces, nephews, neighbours, and friends felt her steady kindness and caring spirit. The family offers special thanks to her niece Mary Gronberg, whose exceptional care, compassion, and steadfast companionship carried Vivian through “thick and thick.”

Vivian dedicated more than 40 years to CIBC and poured her heart into serving her community. Her volunteer work, ranging from Meals on Wheels and Chaps Services to the Canadian Cancer Society and Elections Ontario/Canada, reflected her generous nature and strong sense of responsibility. She was also active in several associations, including Ontario Harness Horseracing, the Dresden Agricultural Society, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 113.

A spirited euchre player and a joyful, competitive crokinole partner, Vivian brought enthusiasm to everything she did. She was a loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Sidney Crosby; cheering loudly and proudly throughout every season.

Vivian loved being in the stands. She travelled all over Southwestern Ontario and beyond to cheer on her family at hockey and baseball games, always ready with a warm coat, a bright smile, and unwavering support. She also took great pride in the artistic pursuits of her son‑in‑law and grandchildren, attending countless plays, concerts, and musical performances. Whether seated in a theatre or pressed against the boards of an arena, Vivian showed up with love, excitement, and genuine joy. Supporting her family was one of her greatest pleasures.

Friends and family will forever remember her legendary roast beef dinners, her love of detective stories, and the countless coffee chats shared at Marlene’s and Ruby’s. Vivian embraced life with energy and purpose. Her favourite saying, “You’re never lost until you’re not found,” captured her adventurous spirit. Her car was truly her second home, always ready to take her somewhere she was needed, somewhere she could help, or somewhere she could enjoy being part of her community. She was a familiar and cherished presence at the Dresden Raceway, whether working, cheering, placing a bet, or supporting Farny through his greatest passion.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the neighbours and friends in Dresden who helped Mom remain in her family home for as long as possible. Deep appreciation is extended to the caring staff at The Oaks Retirement Village and the Village of Glendale Crossing. Our greatest thanks go to the exceptional team at peopleCare Oakcrossing Long-term Care, where Mom received thoughtful, loving care over the past 18 months, and where the staff welcomed our family with such warmth that it truly felt like a second home.

Relatives and friends will be received at Badder Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 679 North Street, Dresden, on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Brian Horrobin, will follow immediately. For those unable to attend, a livestream will be available.
