Dear Norma:
When June and Bill told Patrick and I about the death of your dear husband, John, we were so deeply sorry.
After readying his obituary about how committed he was to the community in spite of his illness, we knew he must have been an extraordinary individual, who will be sadly missed.
Again, Norma, to you and your family, please accept our sincere sympathy on the loss of your husband, John.
Respectfully yours,
Patrick and Gail Dikkes

My condolences to Norma, and Aaron. Spent many an hour with John. Witty, observant, a good heart, usually the smartest one in the room. I regret not having spent more time with him- it always brought so much laughter to the day.

I remember the hours of sitting on my porch with John solving all of the World's problems. I remember the fun we had training, attending meetings, discussing how to make Scouting better. So many fond memories. I just wish the last few years didn't get away from us and I had gotten time to stop by or had made the phone call that was on my to do list. I miss my friend. Rest in peace.

I remember when I lived on Alice Street in Bracebridge, John lived down the street from us. On occasion, if I was playing hockey on the street with friends, John would sometimes play with us.
He was always a practical joker. I remember one time at church, he pulled the lace out of my boot without me realizing it. I stood up, took two steps and lost my boot. When I turned around, there was John standing with my bootlace and said, “Did you lose something?”
Even though I lost track of John many years ago, I always appreciated his sense of humour. I remember a trip to BC that he and Norma went on. The transmission in his Volkswagen Rabbit went. I asked if he had taken pictures and he said, “Yes. One of the mountains, one of Norma in front of the mountains, and many of Norma in front of the repair shop.”
John always knew how to get a laugh. During bible study, he had no idea how to pronounce to of the names in the bible verse he had to read, so he called the biblical characters “Mr. K and Mr D”. He had the entire group laughing.
My sincerest condolences to Norma and Family during this difficult time.

We did not know John very long. But you don’t have to know someone long to take a liking to them. John was our neighbor and cherished friend who with his wife Norma would have coffee and witty conversations with. We will miss him dearly and wish only love to his wife Norma and her family
