Obituary of James Ernest Green

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

A long, well lived life has come to an end.

It is with great sadness that the family of James Ernest (Jim) Green announce his passing on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Strathroy in his 93rd year.

Jim was the beloved husband of Shirley Ann (Ward) Green for 67 wonderful years. He is the cherished father of Cathy Lyn McCready and Barry (Todd) McCready of Strathroy. Much loved Grandpa of Matthew Scott McCready and his partner Patrick Gruggen and Sean Gordon McCready and his wife Amy McCready of London.

Jim will be missed as a brother-in-law by Leora Rodwell, Blanche Burke, Doris Ward, and Jackie Ward, all of Blenheim. Jim was predeceased by one sister-in-law Jean (Ward) Tole and by brothers-in-law Earl Ward, Raeburn Ward, John Ward, Sid Ward, Byron Tole, Clarence Rodwell, and Frank Burke.

Born in Chatham, the son of the late Gordon Powell Green and Mary Elizabeth (Bond) Green. Jim farmed alongside his parents from the homestead on 78 Highway near Tupperville. Jim loved to help out the neighbours with their farming and as a result had many neighbours who became life long friends. In 1955, Jim left the farming life to begin a new job at International Harvester Company in Chatham, where he worked with many friends and colleagues until his retirement 31 years later.

He took his role as the last of the Green family seriously, as he educated his family with stories of farming, the family antiques and the family traditions to be passed down.

Jim cared deeply for his family and friends, but his passion was anything that had a motor. Mostly though, cars and tractors of any year or model, held his interest. Whether it be his favourite and final car, a 2009 black GM G8, or a snowmobile or riding lawn mower, they were all fascinating to him. On a drive through the country, you could find him scanning through farm yards and fields for farm equipment and checking the crops. When at home in Dresden, Chatham, or Strathroy, he could be found browsing through years of photos of tractors, threshing machines or wagons. The farming life, it seems, never left his blood.

The Green family will receive friends at the Badder Funeral Home & Reception Centre 679 North St, Dresden on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 12:00-1:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM. Interment in Dresden Cemetery.
