Goodbye dear Aunt Jo. How well I remember the holidays to Canada, the conversations we had about marriage, children and everyday life. How you secretly longed to return to the Netherlands, but that going back was not an option because all your children live in Canada. Your life was rich in experiences but also in discoveries. You had to learn a new language, new habits, new songs and stories, I don't know if I could have done that. You took me to the grave of your deceased baby, of your husband Henk and to your great sorrow you also had to see George die much before you. What a grieve...... One thing I found very funny, you continued to cook like us in the Netherlands. You were not afraid of anyone, you had a strong opinion and you dared to express it. That was your Dutch site, world conqueror. For a younger generation it is always nice to see that an aunt has so much guts. I will take this example with me in my life and pass on a number of habits to the next generation. I take the memories with me, I cherish the photos and I will always hear your voice. For my cousins I wish comfort, strength and the same courage as you had. Dag tante Jo, tot ooit !

Dag Tante Jo,
I have met you only a few times in my life. The first time when you and the whole family came to visit Holland.. I was a teenage girl and I loved to meet my family from far away.
The last time was when you and Ome Henk were in the Netherlands and came to visit me in my house in Schiedam.
My ex and me had a great time then, most of all because of you, talking with, as we call it: het hart op de tong.. your heart on your tongue.
Strong, sharp, funny and very sweet.. you must have been a great matriarch to the family. And I have always admired your strength.
My condolences to my cousins, John, Maurice, Geoff RIP, Lee and Henriëtta and to all your grand children. especially Sarah, who told me about you and how she lived with you and cared for you, and Beth Anne who shared her memories of you with me and how she could read a little Dutch, because of the Dutch papers she'd read out loud for you and Ome Henk.
I am sure you will be sadly missed.

Lieve Tante Jo. Ik kan nog herinneren toen u met uw familie naar Nederland kwam toen Moe nog leefde en ik mijn neefjes en nicht voor het eerst leerde kennen. Dat was een hele happening voor een jonge meid, maar mijn moeder heeft altijd verteld over u en Ome Henk. In 1979:1980 heeft u mij in huis genomen en mij heel thuis laten voelen. Ik ben u daar nog steeds dankbaar voor. Dank je wel lieve Tante Jo. I,ll never forget. Ook Harry mijn man heeft u mogen ontmoeten. Thank you Aunt Jo, for who you are, been, was to me (please sorry iff there are mistakes English is not my native)
