Shirley was an amazingly talented and caring colleague whose passion for people was second to none. Practical and hands-on, Shirley supported everyone around her by doing. She was a leader that stood shoulder to shoulder with her staff and her management team and could always be counted on to tell it like it is and demand the best for her patients, her team, the HPHA and her community. Shirley's courage and determination in the face of adversity, both personnally and professionally, was fierce and inspiring. I am sending you my love Shirley, and will continue to think of you often and with a smile. My condolences to Shirley's family, friends and colleagues.

I remember Shirley well from the Clinton and Seaforth ER's as our manager. You always knew where you stood with Shirley, and I appreciated that. If she didn't know an answer to a question, she'd go and find out and report back. She certainly had my respect. My sincere and deepest condolences to Shirley's kids and to all her family.

When I was Program Director for Emergency Medicine, I recall being told that the nursing senior administration had been restructured and Shirley had been assigned to the Emerg portfolio. I had not worked with Shirley previously and had no idea what it would be like to work closely with her. I soon realized that I had won the lottery! Shirley was a phenomenal colleague who also became a great friend. I remain quite proud of the programs that Shirley and I developed and supported together. She also lived near my folks in South London so I was fortunate to be able to visit her in her home after her initial diagnosis. Shirley taught me many things professionally - personally I would add courage and grace to the list. Shirley was a force and I will always be grateful that we had the opportunity to work together. She was a great nurse, a great leader and a great friend.

Shirley was the inspiration behind a fund raiser for cancer. We penned it bald or blue and the community came together to help raise almost 20,000 dollars. There was lots of blue hair and bald heads! I’ll miss your steady hand and calming force as a manager.
