Obituary of Charles William Liberty

Charles William Liberty "Charlie", a resident of Wabash, passed away on Thursday January 9, 2025 at Chatham Kent Health Alliance at the age of 85.

Born in Chatham, the son of the late Benjamin and Alma (Webster) Liberty.  Loving husband of Lillian (Zak) Liberty for 63 years.  Survived by son Scott (Betty) Liberty, and daughters Lynn (John) Warner and Cris (Shawn) Sewell.  Predeceased by infant daughter.

Proud and loving “Papa Chuck” to his grandchildren Ben (Jess) Liberty, Lacey (Ian) Broad, Emma (Matthew) Warner Miller, Samuel Warner, Shaelyn and Alexx Sewell.  Predeceased by granddaughter Jesse Warner (2019).

Charles never tired of watching his four great grandchildren, Eddie and Wyatt Broad and Sloan and George Liberty.  They always brought a smile to his face.

At the age of 17, Charles began his farming career.  He bought a pickup truck that he used to buy and sell pigs all across the area from Lake Erie to Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair.  He greeted everyone with his contagious smile and often ended up invited for dinner at multiple farms on the same evening.  The farm at Wabash has raised cattle, sheep, and pigs over the years.  There may even have been a goat at one time.  All the while he farmed in the Wabash, Dresden and Thamesville area, always with a smile on his face.

Charles is survived by his siblings, Linda (late Ralph) Richley, Helen (late Bob) Regnier, Patricia (Terry) Oster and Benjamin E (Lynn) Liberty.

The family would like to thank the staff at Chatham Kent Health Alliance for taking such good care of Dad this past month.

At Charlie's request cremation will take place. The Liberty Family will receive family and friends at the Badder Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 679 North St., Dresden on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 11:00 AM until the time of the Memorial Service at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to the Wabash United Church, Dresden Legion or the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation would be appreciated. Online condolences and donations may be left at www.badderfuneralhome.com

“The Farmer’s Field, Now Still”

The farmers field, now still and hushed, the sound of laughter, forever crushed.

Your steady hands, your furrowed brow, we miss you deeply here and now.

Through sun and rain, you tilled the land, a legacy of love, a life so grand.

In every harvest, we’ll see your face, and feel the emptiness, none can replace.

The earth, a witness to your toil, now embraces you, a final uncoil.

In the farmers field, where you once roamed, we’ll miss you dearly, your love, our home.
