Obituary of Douglas James Meredith

Meredith, Douglas - A resident of Bothwell, Doug Meredith passed away at Chatham Kent Health Alliance after a brief illness on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the age of 83. Born in Chatham, Doug was the son of the late Wilfred and Ruth (Vinson) Meredith. Beloved husband to Marlou (Bray) Meredith. Devoted father of Kevin Meredith of Bothwell, Mary Sue Meredith of Waterloo and Brad Meredith and his wife Kelly of Chatham. Proud grandfather of Scot, Alexis, Teya and Teghan Meredith. Survived by his brothers Ron Meredith (Lorraine), Bill Meredith (Joyce), Bob Meredith (Judy), Edgar Meredith, and Gordon Meredith (Linda) and sister-in-law Karen Meredith. Predeceased by siblings Murray and Mary Ruth. Brother-in-law to Judy (Dennis Jack), Gary Bray (Sue), and Dale Bray (Kathy). Fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doug farmed most of his life in Zone Township, and also along with his wife, owned and operated Meredith's Family Wear for 36 years in Bothwell. Doug was very involved in his community. He was on Zone Township Council for 24 years, while serving as Reeve of Zone Township for 20 years. He spent 20 years on Kent County Council while serving as Warden of the County in 1975. Doug was also President of R.O.M.A. (Rural Ontario Municipal Association), President of R.O.M.A. Insurance Board, and was President of the Florence Fair Board. He was President of Bothwell Minor Hockey, and is believed to have been one of the last remaining members of the Bothwell Arena Building Committee after which he spent 10 years as Chairman of the Bothwell Arena Board. Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at the Badder & Robinson Funeral Home, 211 Elm St., Bothwell on Friday April 1st from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016. Donations made in memory of Doug to the Four Counties Health Services or Chatham-Kent Hospice would be appreciated.
