Obituary of Gord Downie

Visitation Badder & Robinson Funeral Home, Bothwell Monday, April 22, 2013 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm Cremation will take place with Interment in Alvinston Cemetery at a later date Downie: Gord a resident of R.R.# 2 Bothwell, passed away peacefully at home on the farm on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the age of 76. Born in Euphemia Twp., where he lived and farmed all his life, son of the late Roy and Kathleen (Trestain) Downie. Gord loved being a farmer, and enjoyed fishing,and hunting. He also really enjoyed watching his grandchildren figure skate, play hockey, ringette, baseball, and soccer. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him!  Beloved husband of 48 years to Marie (Patterson) Downie. Loving father and father-in-law of Janet Vanos (Ron), Lisa Power (Pat), Cindy Kucera (Dave). Much loved “Poppa” of Emily & Jessica Vanos, Devin, Jeff & Bradley Power, and Kayla and Ashley Kucera. Dear brother of Norma Perdue (Edwin) of Surrey B.C.. Gord is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ardell & Sandra Patterson, Rene Beaubien, and Joan Downie. He will be fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by sisters Mary Gray and Helen Luke, a brother Robert Downie, a sister-in-law Nancy Beaubien, and brothers-in-law Don Gray and Lloyd Luke. The Downie family will receive friends at the Badder & Robinson Funeral Home, 211 Elm St., Bothwell on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Havelock Masonic Lodge # 238 A.F&A.M, Watford, (formerly Alvinston #323) will hold a Masonic Service on Monday evening at 6:45pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 11:00am with Rev. Jim Breen and Rev. Annalee Kerr officiating. Cremation with Interment in Alvinston Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made at the funeral home by cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one’s choice.
