With a strong will to live and determination to overcome his 5 year silent struggle with cancer, we are saddened to announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle - Fredrick "Fred" Welch of Wallaceburg on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the age of 74. Fred was a proud farmer in Sombra Township, a retiree of 42 years from Libby Glass, Wallaceburg. Fred found the joys of life while camping, spectating "coaching" sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He was also a dedicated fan of the Chatham Maroons. Fred's love of sports will continue as a passion by his family and friends. Born in Florence son of the late Allen and Emily (Grosse) Welch. Beloved husband of 52 years to Helen (Schepanowski) Welch; loving father of Kim (Brent) Birkby of Chatham, Lorrie (Stuart) Handsor of Wallaceburg, Wendy (Raymond) Trahan of Grande Pointe and Jennifer (Nick) Salaris of Petrolia; dear grandfather of Michael, Leah, Scott and Nicole Birkby, Karlie, Sydney and Torrie Handsor, Tanner Trahan, Tye, Nolan and Alexandra Salaris; proud great grandfather of Ethan and Luke Birkby; dear brother of Joan & Bob Patterson of Iona Station and Joyce & Allen Johnston of Port Lambton. Sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. The Welch family will receive family and friends at the Badder Funeral Home & Reception Centre 679 North Street, Dresden on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Blackburn Cemetery, Camden Township.
