IN MEMORY OF DENNIS GERALD WICKS

1955-2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis (Denny Bear) Wicks.   After a long and very courageous battle with Cancer, ultimately it was the debilitating disease Paraneoplastic Syndrome; a rare neurological condition associated with his cancer that truly robbed him of being able to live life the way it should be.

As he wished, Den died in peace and with dignity at home, in the arms of his wife, at the time of his choosing on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

Born in Dresden, Den cherished his childhood memories with his lifelong friends, playing hockey and baseball. His stories of creating havoc with his cohort Donald “Merrill” Roberts, his best friend always, will be remembered with a smile.

Dennis spent much of his life in London with his family, continuing with the love of sports, playing Slo-pitch and coaching baseball.  He treasured his many yearly fishing trips with  Barry Hooper and “the Boys”.  Returning to Dresden later in life, back with his family and friends, Dennis was fortunate to spend much valuable time with his Dad.  They enjoyed their golf and later, just sitting around the porch, reliving their memories and talking baseball and Red Wings. And the Leafs, but not in a good way! Cherished moments for sure.

But mostly, Den loved the Track.  He was there faithfully, every morning, helping his good friend John “Sully” Sullivan and eventually sharing in ownership of a Trotter called “Magnitude Ten”.   He sure did love the races.

Dennis was fortunate to have found true love twice in his lifetime.  He leaves behind Kelly (nee Higgs Kozachuk), his loving wife of 13 years and family friend of many more.  Predeceased by his first wife and soulmate of 25 years, Valerie (nee Williacy) and by his mother Jean, sister Pauline and brother-in-law Bill Worrell.  He is survived by his father Gerald Wesley and brother Michael (Linda).  A proud father and teacher to Joshua (Katherine), and stepson Jayson Kozachuk (Kate). Loving uncle to Cody, Ethan and Aaron.  Dennis loved being a Grampa to Emmie, Addie and Sawyer, and was so very proud of them.  He and Val will be with Josh and Katy in spirit to lovingly watch over them and the coming arrival of their granddaughter Alma Wicks.

Cremation has taken place and a true Celebration of Life will be held at the Dresden Legion, Branch 113, at a future date when it can be attended by many and without restrictions. Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 113, 180 St. George St. N., P.O. Box 668 Dresden, ON N0P 1M0 in Den’s memory are greatly appreciated.
