Obituary of Gerald Wesley Wicks
Wicks: Gerald Wesley, formerly of Dresden, passed away peacefully with his son by his side at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Sydenham Campus, Wallaceburg on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at the age of 93. Born in Dresden, son of the late Ford and Ida (Sharpe) Wicks. Beloved husband of 38 years to the late Jean (Reid) Wicks. Loving father and father-in-law of Michael, Linda Wicks and Kelly Wicks (late Dennis). Predeceased by his daughter Pauline Worrell, son-in-law Bill Worrell, son Dennis Wicks and daughter-in-law Valerie Wicks, brothers Alvin “Buck”, Fred (Dorothy) and brother-in-law Dr. John Reid (Barb). Proud grandfather of Joshua Wicks (Katy), Cody Worrell and great-grandfather of Alma. Sadly missed by friend Leslee Southgate and girls. Dad was fortunate to have Jennifer Summers as his earth angel. Also survived by a nephew, nieces and cousins. Gerald was a dedicated worker throughout his life. His last 18 years of employment was for the Board of Education, as a custodian at LKCS and WDSS where he touched the lives of many teachers and students. He was inducted in the Dresden Sports Hall of Fame in 1999. Dad wore many hats for different organizations in Dresden. He was a baseball player, coached hockey and baseball, umpired many games in Canada and the U.S.A. After retirement he golfed from Monday to Friday with the senior men at Ridgetown Golf Course. Dad and mom enjoyed camping at Rondeau Shores and he continued to camp after mom passed away. He had the best dog ever “Dusty”, they would spend their time between Dresden and Rondeau Shores until Dusty passed. Dad did many things for many people throughout his life and made lifelong special friends with Dr. Nimer Khalaf and staff. The Wicks’ family will receive family and friends at the Badder Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 679 North St., Dresden on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The Funeral service will be held at the Dresden Community Church, 29403 Community Rd., Dresden on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM. A Private Family Interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dresden Sports Hall of Fame or Dresden Terry Fox Run, Site 1382 would be appreciated. Online condolences and donations may be left at www.badderfuneralhome.com
